Thiruvananthapuram – Leader of opposition V.D. Satheesan said that the Governor’s action in freezing the appointment of Kannur University associate professor is welcome. In six years, the governor has fixed it now. Six years of university appointments should be examined. Satheesan also said that the university amendment bill is being brought to appoint the likes as vice-chancellors and appoint relatives.
Deserving people were openly denied justice. The same has happened for the last six years. Governor should take steps to investigate and cancel all such relative appointments. Teaching jobs in universities are reserved for relatives of CPM leaders. The teacher, who has 25 years of teaching experience and has published more than 100 research papers, scored 651. But the score of the appointee is 156. The appointment was overturned by giving 32 marks to the person who scored 156 in the interview and 30 marks to the person who scored 651. VD Satheesan alleged that the government is appointing undeserving people without giving opportunity to those with doctorate and teaching experience.
Attempts are being made to bring the University Amendment Bill in the Assembly for the appointment of teachers. The aim of the government is to make people of their choice as vice-chancellors and make irregularities in the appointment of teachers. At present, the search committee consists of representatives from the UGC, the Senate and the Chancellor, the Governor. The government representative and the chairman of the Higher Education Council are included in it. Then recommend only the name of the person who gets the majority to the Governor. Through this, the government can exclude the deserving and appoint the preferred ones. VCs appointed in such a way will stand like slaves before the government. That is what happened in Kannur University.
He said that he would go to court against the Governor’s action of canceling the appointment to restore the injustice. In that case, UDF will also seek legal recourse. Such law violations should not take place in Kerala again. It is because the UDF government left the appointment of non-teaching staff to the PSC that recruitment scams like the one in Kerala University are not taking place now. Therefore, the government should be ready to leave the appointment of teachers in universities to the PSC.
The Governor has the power to revoke illegal appointments as per the law passed by the Legislature. If the governor is acting illegally, the opposition will oppose it. The opposition has pointed out that the appointment of the Kannur VC by the governor and the letter written by the minister is illegal. Later the governor also agreed to this. The Governor was not ready to fire the VC as the appointment was accepted as illegal. The government can’t get away with doing injustice and saying BJP and center politics. The cancellation of the appointment by the Governor was legal. Now the governor has done the right thing.- said the leader of the opposition.
At the same time, VD Satheesan said that the court’s remarks against Atijeevta in the Civic Chandran case are shocking. If institutions that are supposed to give justice do this, where will people go in search of justice? What era does this judge live in? Living in 19th century Spain, or 21st century? The Judiciary has witnessed the trampling of a serious law passed by the Parliament to protect Scheduled Castes and prevent atrocities against them. He said that he hoped that the High Court would intervene in the unfortunate remark.
