Transmitted to humans through the bites of Anopheles mosquitoes, malaria is a potentially fatal disease. In 2021, the estimated number of deaths attributable to malaria stood at 619,000, according to the WHO. Four countries alone share more than half of this tribute: Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Niger and Tanzania.
