The club captains agreed to paralyze Chilean football, although there were teams that turned their backs on Sifup’s request.
The ratification of the rule that allows clubs to have six foreigners in their ranks by the Council of Presidents of the ANFP, shook Chilean football and caused the immediate reaction from the Professional Footballers Union (Sifup).
After learning of this measure, the association called an extraordinary assembly this Tuesday to decide the suspension of the national championship with the aim of reversing this measure.
“The strike is imminent. Therefore, it is the footballers who will define the steps from Tuesday onwards. We don’t have much more chance, we have put all the information on the table, We have been in all the meetings that have been requested of us and we continue with a vote against in the Council of Presidents,” warned the president of Sifup, Gamadiel García, at that time.
A fact that materialized in the last hours, since the captains of the clubs took their position and voted in favor of the strike. According to what was expressed by the union leader, this will be extended “until the Council of Presidents modifies the decision adopted on December 13, regarding the unjustified increase in the quota of foreigners.”
In addition, they requested “compliance with various legal requirements in the workplace, health and sports fields that affect our professional footballers, those that we have already presented to the ANFP.”
Will the Super Cup be played between Colo Colo and Huachipato?
