Telecom operator Reliance Jio presented such a plan before the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI, which could prove beneficial for the customers, but Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea expressed strong objection to this plan of Jio. He said that this plan of Jio will ruin it. Actually, Jio had demanded a rebate of Rs 100 in postpaid outstanding for mobile number portability. What is the whole matter?
If you understand in simple words, Jio said that if a user wants to port his mobile number and his outstanding balance is Rs 100 or less, then the customer should be given the option to port it to another mobile number. However, Airtel and Jio have expressed their disagreement on this proposal of Reliance Jio. According to a report by Financial Express, Reliance Jio has presented ‘Draft Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Ninth Amendment) Regulations, 2023 before TRAI. ,

What are the current MNP rules?
According to current rules, telecom companies can stop the mobile number portability process for postpaid users if their outstanding is Rs 10 or more. If the balance is less than Rs 10, it is ignored and you can get the number ported. However, now Jio wants to increase this limit to Rs 100.

Reason for opposition between Airtel and Vi? Airtel and Vodafone-Idea say that if the discount in dues for porting a mobile number is increased from Rs 10 to Rs 100, it will have a negative impact on the revenue of the telecom companies. Doing so will negatively impact their revenues and increase bad debts on outgoing customers. Jio, on the other hand, believes that a higher non-payment disconnection (NPD) limit will benefit consumers as the current process is complex and time-consuming.
