Chennai: Cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin said that Tamil Nadu players must win the Ranji Trophy if they want to be included in the Indian team.
TNCA talent scouting program has been developed by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association to take cricket to all parts of the state. The program is designed to help fast bowlers and spinners discover their skills and bowlers to improve their skills.
In this project, a special test for fast bowlers and spinners between the ages of 14 and 24 will be held in 13 district centers starting from the 11th of next month and will be held till March by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. The program has been developed to the extent that the selected players are given continuous training by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and bring them to the Tamil Nadu team.
Speaking at the launch of this special program, Indian cricketer Ashwin said, “We have been seeing continuous criticism that there are many players from Tamil Nadu who have not made it to the Indian team. But if you look at the players in the Indian team, they have played very well in the Ranji Trophy matches. Mumbai players are being selected for politics. Don’t look at the target.Mumbai team has won the Ranji trophy 45 times.If we win too, many players are likely to go to the Indian team.
Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has found many players like Jagatheesan, Sai Sudarsan through TNPL. However, they must win the Ranji Trophy to progress to the next stage. Fast bowlers who want to win like that are the main needs of the Tamil Nadu team. Lakshmipathy Balaji was the last fast bowler from Tamil Nadu. It is true that our players are not capable enough to play the red ball in the current environment. All the players have to come from the tank to clear it.
Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s timely introduction of this scheme is commendable. When the players come at the district level, more skillful players will be produced. Even fast bowler Natarajan did not play directly for India. India played with the help of several leagues including the TNPL. We are giving good importance to women’s cricket. Tamil Nadu women’s cricket is in good shape.
Junior cricket is the DNA of cricket. If they win the Ranji Trophy in the next three years, Tamil Nadu will be in good shape. But they need to win three titles within the next 10 years. God willing we can even win the Ranji Trophy next year,” he said.
