Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain clarified that the interim government has not made any promises to transfer any part of Bangladesh to the United States.
Speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (August 11), Hossain responded to a question regarding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s previous statement about “writing off” St. Martin and the Bay of Bengal to the United States.
He categorically denied any such commitment from either the government or himself. He further cast doubt on the possibility of such a promise being made by student protesters.
Hossain also addressed the issue of international relations, emphasizing the need for a smooth and cooperative approach. He acknowledged concerns about human rights and other global issues, stating that Bangladesh prioritizes its friendship with India in this regard.
Regarding the future of the interim government, the Foreign Affairs Adviser stated that power will only be transferred through democratic elections, and no disruptions are anticipated.
Hossain also announced plans to investigate the recent student protests and hinted at the possibility of seeking assistance from the United Nations if necessary. He further announced an upcoming diplomatic meeting with ambassadors to discuss various embassy activities.
