When a man wishes to take responsibility for contraception in his relationship, he has few safe and effective options beyond the condom, flexible but sometimes experienced as a constraint, or vasectomy, a safe surgery. but little, if not not, reversible. However, alternatives are emerging, certainly at nascent stages, but capable of appealing to certain determined audiences.

This is mainly the case for thermal male contraception, sometimes described somewhat trivially as “heated underwear”. The method was developed in the 1980s, but its potential takeoff was stopped short by the arrival of HIV. Now, in a societal context conducive to greater equality within couples, the method seems to be starting to develop.
