Three people died on Sunday, after private helicopter crash about a mechanical workshop at the intersection of the Magnet Avenue and Aztecas Avenue, south of Mexico City, in the Coyoacán Mayor’s Office.

The helicopter, identified as a Bell 206JR III with registration XB-PIP operated by the company Helidomsuddenly collapsed, leaving a tragic death toll of three, presumably the pilot and two passengers.

The owner of the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC CDMX) of the capital, Pablo Vázquez Camacho, confirmed the unfortunate news in a message on the social network

The capital’s Attorney General’s Office (FGJCDMX) began an investigation into the incident, deploying agents from the Investigative Police and other forensic teams to the scene.

The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) announced that, in collaboration with the authorities of Mexico City, the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) and Navigation Services in Mexican Airspace (Seneam), they are investigating the circumstances of the accident and reviewing the corresponding permits for the aircraft.

According to initial investigations, the helicopter, for commercial use, could have experienced an “engine shutdown” during the flight, which led to its rapid descent and subsequent collision on a nearby property.

Authorities identified the pilot as Armando Cervantes, who had a commercial pilot license and psychophysical certification at the time of the accident.

The tragic event has sparked concern in the local community and has highlighted the importance of civil aviation safety.
