WhatsApp to Enable Status Updates from Web and Linked Devices

In a move to enhance the user experience, WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is set to introduce a new feature that will allow users to post status updates from the web version or from linked “companion” devices.

The new companion mode will enable users to access their conversations on four other devices, even when their primary smartphone is not connected to the Internet. This update comes as part of the WhatsApp Web beta 2.2353.59. The feature tracker WABetaInfo discovered a new feature in the web client that allows users to post updates from the status section.

The capability to share status updates will also be available for companion devices. Users who have updated to the beta version of WhatsApp for Android 2.24.1.4 will be able to add a status update directly from their companion devices. This signifies a gradual expansion of features available on these devices.

The company has not provided any specific timeline for the rollout of the feature to all users. However, it is expected that the feature will eventually make its way to iOS devices as well.

In addition to this update, WhatsApp is also testing a new type of companion device – WhatsApp for iPad. Beta testers can now install WhatsApp on Apple tablets if they are part of the TestFlight program. It should be noted that both the Android and iOS beta programs for WhatsApp are currently full, and the service does not allow more users to sign up to receive WhatsApp beta updates.

The introduction of these new features demonstrates WhatsApp’s commitment to continuously improve its service and provide users with a more seamless messaging experience across various devices.
