Frankfurt The Jakobs family has already taken the step. The couple with three sons moved from Cologne to a small village in the Hunsrück, around 100 kilometers from the metropolis. The terraced house in Cologne-Porz had become too narrow for them and the surroundings were too loud. Now they live on a 750 square meter property and the children run around in a playground opposite the house. It is a radical change that more and more Germans can imagine.

Out into the countryside: Continuing high real estate prices in the cities and the new home office culture are causing many people looking for accommodation to increasingly look at the suburbs of the big cities. But given the slowly falling property prices, how big is the price difference compared to the metropolis?

Where do property buyers find the greatest savings potential? Using exclusive data from the broker Von Poll Immobilien and the brokerage portal Immoscout24, the Handelsblatt has evaluated the price development in the areas surrounding the largest German cities and shows which regions are particularly interesting in terms of price.
