How the teams arrive
In the last round, Benfica overpowered Portimonense 4-0 at home, with goals from the attacking trio Rafa Silva (twice), Ángel Di María and David Neres. Thus, the Eagles reached their 22nd consecutive game without defeat and still opened a two-point lead over second-placed Sporting.

In the middle of the week, Porto faced Santa Clara away from home in the semi-finals of the Portuguese Cup and won 2-1. Brazilians Evanilson and Wenderson Galeno scored the winning goals.
