Clubs from the same city are playing a local derby this Sunday; one tries to consolidate its leadership of the Spanish Championship, while the other seeks recovery
Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid face each other this Sunday, 18th, at 10am (Brasília time), in the 25th round of the Spanish Championship. The game, which takes place at the Estadio de Vallecas, in Madrid, pits two teams from the same city face to face, but who are at completely different moments in the competition.
Led by Carlo Ancelotti, Real is the isolated leader of La Liga, with 61 points and comes, in the championship, from a 4-0 defeat over Girona, its main competitor in the tournament, in addition to an away victory by 1 to 0 over RB Leipzig in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.
Vallecano, unlike the Whites, is going through a bad time. The team is only 14th in the Spanish Championship, with 24 points won, and is trying to stop the crisis. After a negative sequence of three defeats – the last to Mallorca 2-1 on the 11th – the club fired coach Francisco Rodriguez and announced Iñigo Pérez, until then an assistant, as his replacement.
