Almost real scenarios

Some people believed that only studios or virtual set production technologies recorded Harry Potter scenes. However, the author herself, JK Rowling, revealed that, to set the scene and bring the public closer to the universe of the famous little wizard, the eight films in the saga used different locations. In addition to the Warner Bros. studios, recording took place in locations across the United Kingdom, including England, Scotland and Wales.

Platform 9 ¾

To portray Platform 9 ¾ of the Hogwarts Express, described in the books with realism, they chose King’s Cross station, in London, as the setting during the recording of Harry Potter. They used part of the station wall, approximately between platforms 4 and 5, to film the scenes in which Harry and his group magically crossed the brick barrier to get to the Hogwarts Express.

Today, at the filming location, there is a luggage cart that appears to magically disappear into a wall beneath a Platform 9 ¾ sign.

The train to Hogwarts

One of the famous scenes in the saga shows the Hogwarts train passing over a viaduct. The Glenfinnan Viaduct, completed in 1901 in Inverness-shire, in the Scottish Highlands, was chosen to bring the necessary realism to the film.

The viaduct, located around 30 meters above the water, crosses the River Finnan and provides an impressive journey for passengers.

Dursley House

The Dursley house, famous mainly in the books and throughout the Harry Potter saga, is located at 4 Privet Drive in fiction, but in reality it is a residence built at 12 Picket Post Close, in the city of Bracknell.

In the story, the little wizard lived in this place, inside a closet, with his uncle Vernon, his aunt Petunia and his cousin Dudley Dursley, before leaving for Hogwarts.

It is interesting to highlight that after filming, Warner Bros decided to build a replica of the house in a studio.

The Leaky Caldeirão tavern

The entrance to the famous Leaky Cauldron tavern is actually the door of a business on Bull’s Head Passage, in London’s Leadenhall Market. In the film, the pub is in Diagon Alley, the then-popular shopping street where wizards buy their spells and potions.

The broomstick flight

One of the moments that marked generations was when Harry performed the famous broomstick flight. In fact, the setting chosen for this little wizard scene was Alnwick Castle, in Northumberland, in the north of England, which appears in the first film as the stage for Madame Hooch’s class on how to fly on a broomstick.

Currently, the place is used to hold events and features exhibitions related to the Harry Potter saga.
