Whitelands Unveils New Single “Songbird (Forever)” Ahead of ‘Sunlight Echoes’ Release
A deeply personal new track from the London-based band offers a glimpse into overcoming adversity, arriving January 30th via Sonic Cathedral.
London’s Whitelands continues to build anticipation for their upcoming album, Sunlight Echoes, with the release of their latest single, “Songbird (Forever).” Following the critically acclaimed previews “Heat Of The Summer” and “Glance,” the new song delves into themes of resilience and the power of human connection.
The band’s singer-guitarist shared that the song is a direct reflection on his personal support system. “It’s about my friends, the important people in my life, and my spirit,” he explained. He revealed the song emerged from a challenging period, emphasizing the vital role of love and support in his journey. “I was going through a very dark time, but love is a great thing. I’m loved by many incredible people, so I pushed myself with everything I had. Every day was a fight, but I wanted to win.”
The emotional impact of the track was immediately apparent during the recording process. According to the band’s bassist, Vanessa Govinden, the initial playback of “Songbird (Forever)” was a profoundly moving experience. “When we first laid down this track, hearing it back was emotional. There was a gulp when the first chorus kicked in and that was before the strings were added.”
Govinden also highlighted the significant contribution of James (Iskra Strings), whose string arrangements elevated the song to new heights. “I’m so pleased that James reached out when he did, because he lifted the whole song.” The addition of strings clearly added a layer of depth and emotional resonance to the already powerful composition.
Sunlight Echoes is scheduled for release on January 30th through Sonic Cathedral, promising a full exploration of the themes introduced in these compelling singles. The album is poised to solidify Whitelands’ position as a leading voice in the contemporary shoegaze scene, offering listeners a sonic landscape both beautiful and emotionally raw.
