The 5th three-day global high-level meeting of Rapid Response Medical Teams (EMST/EMT) has started in Armenia.

More than 500 delegates from around the world will join efforts to respond more quickly to conflicts at the 5th UNEP Global Meeting.

Participants from more than 110 countries, including UNA, technical experts and international partners from a range of organizations, are given the opportunity to reflect on and learn about lessons learned and innovative and life-saving approaches in emergency response.

RA Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan emphasizes the provision of medical assistance to citizens displaced as a result of war operations and deprived of their normal life.

“We have to organize their ongoing medical care, their primary care services, vaccinations, ongoing follow-up visits. Our complete system should be able to meet all needs,” the minister noted.

According to the minister, investments are constantly being made in the healthcare system to strengthen the system, educate, re-equip the medical centers, as well as create mechanisms for everyone to work together in a unified, coordinated manner.

Gerald Rockenschaub, Director of Emergency Situations of the WHO European Regional Office, emphasized that every time they hear about cases of targeting medical workers during war situations in Armenia, they document it.

Anahit Avanesyan also emphasized that all attacks on ambulances as a result of the 44-day war, as well as the latest aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan, have been documented.

“All the evidence has been submitted to both the monitoring circles and the WHO. Such actions should always be strictly condemned and have no place in our country,” added the minister.

Michael Ryan, Executive Director of WHO’s Health Emergencies Program, condemned the attack on health workers.

“Attacks on medical workers have increased in recent years. It is unacceptable, this is a crime,” he announced.
