WASHINGTON — “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” star Colin Mochrie is postponing several upcoming tour dates as he recovers from emergency surgery for a detached retina, a condition that can threaten vision.

Mochrie Postpones Tour Dates Following Emergency Eye Surgery

The improv comedian is recovering from a detached retina and prioritizing rest, according to a joint statement.

In a statement released on Friday, Mochrie and his HYPROV tour partner, Asad Mecci, announced the postponement of upcoming shows. Mochrie was on tour with Mecci for their unique hypnosis-improv fusion show, HYPROV.

“We regret to inform you that our upcoming shows will be postponed due to a medical situation involving Colin Mochrie,” the statement read. “His medical team is optimistic about his full recovery, but he needs time to rest and heal.”

Ticket holders are being assured that all tickets will be honored for the rescheduled dates. Those unable to attend the new performances will be eligible for a refund, details of which will be provided shortly.

“We understand this news is disappointing for those who were looking forward to the performances, and we truly appreciate your understanding,” the statement continued. “Colin is incredibly grateful for your support and well wishes. He looks forward to being back on stage and sharing many more laughs with all of you in the near future.”

Understanding Retinal Detachment

A detached retina, while typically painless, is considered a serious medical condition requiring prompt treatment. According to the Cleveland Clinic, it occurs when the retina—the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye—pulls away from the underlying tissues that support it. This separation can lead to vision problems and, if left untreated, even blindness.

What are the common symptoms of a detached retina? Symptoms can include seeing eye floaters, flashes of light, or a shadow in your field of vision.

The quick action taken by Mochrie’s medical team suggests a proactive approach to preserving his vision. While recovery timelines vary, a successful surgery offers a strong chance of restoring full sight.
