With the incident of an 82-year-old woman being mauled to death by a pit bull in Uttar Pradesh, experts have explained why pit bull dogs are becoming dangerous.

In general, until the 1980s, indigenous dogs were the most common breed of domestic dogs in India. As country dogs were loyal to their masters and at the same time bravely guarded the owner’s family and home, people from the poor to the rich kept many breeds of country dogs according to their convenience. Examples of this are dogs belonging to breeds such as Rajapalayam, Kombai, Sippiparai and Kanni.

Exotic dog craze

In this case, after 1990, foreign dogs were brought into India in large numbers. Foreign breeds like Alsace, Doberman, German Shepherd became pet dogs in Indian households. Over time, breeding exotic dogs has become an honor.

Obey the word of the masters

Breeding and maintenance of the above type of dogs is quite expensive. These dogs need special attention such as special food and shampoo to prevent shedding. Despite the high cost, these dogs are very loyal to their owners. Although aggressive towards strangers, these dogs obey their masters.

Ferocious pitbull dogs

It was in this situation that ferocious foreign dogs like the Pitbull were introduced to India in the late 2000s. Pitbulls are from Britain. Basically, the Pitbull is a fighting breed. Short figure, big strong body muscles, small eyes, a kind of fear comes into us when we see this dog.

In general, Pitbull dogs have high jaw power. This makes it difficult for the dog to get out of its mouth if it bites a person. Also, pitbull dogs become more aggressive if they bite a person. This makes it very difficult to get rid of a pitbull dog without the help of at least 6 or 7 people.

Banned in many countries

Pitbull dogs can attack not only strangers but sometimes their owners. Due to many such incidents and deaths, the breeding of Pitbull dogs has been banned in many countries including Britain, France, Germany, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. But despite many such incidents in India, no ban has been imposed so many people are breeding pitbull dogs without realizing the danger.

Experts warn

Veterinarian Vinita Pujari said:

A pitbull dog is usually used to being attached to only one person. On the one hand, very loving and on the other very fierce. Its characteristics change depending on how it is grown. Breeding a Pitbull requires special training. Above all, the climate and diet of Western countries are ideal for Pitbulls. Indian climate and cuisines do not agree and sometimes it turns ferocious. That is why we are saying not to breed pitbull dogs in India, he said.
