A northern Michigan marina closed its fourth weekend in July after actor and comedian Tim Allen’s yacht leaked fuel into the water, the report said.

About 30 gallons of diesel leaked from Allen’s yacht Sunday at Northport Village Marina, located about 30 miles northwest of Traverse City, the city’s Record-Eagle website reported.

According to Port Manager Bill Rosmorgi, the leak was significant enough to cause the marina to close on Sunday evening and all day on Monday. The marina reopened Monday night. The port manager said that while 30 liters may not seem like a lot of fuel, diesel spreads much faster than regular petrol.

Officials told the paper that the leak was due to a fuel filter problem in the boat that caused diesel to spill into the yacht’s engine compartment. After the cell was filled with fuel, the power pump threw the diesel into the marina.

Alan, the star of the mythical “Home Renovation” series, said the gas filter gasket broke as he rode a boat around Foster Bay. He is responsible for covering the cleaning costs.

Alan claims only about 11 gallons leaked, contrary to the marina’s estimate. “I felt very uncomfortable closing the port for everyone,” the actor told the newspaper.

The town’s marina and fire department have deployed brooms and hundreds of absorbent pads to clean the diesel from the water.

The U.S. Coast Guard has been notified of the leak and is overseeing the marina’s cleanup efforts.

Witnesses told the newspaper they saw some dead ducklings, carp and pythons in the marina after the leak, but the fire chief in the area said the leak did not appear to have affected any wildlife.

A beach and playground just south of the marina were also closed on Monday after fuel was swept ashore.
