Generally, the advent of spring is associated with March 21st but in reality this is not always the case. This is demonstrated by the fact that this year, as in 2023 and in previous years, the season of rebirth begins on March 20th.
But what is the Spring Equinox? The word comes from Latin, equinoxand it means same night. More than a day, it’s an instant. This year it coincided with 4:06 am (Italian time). In that moment, the Sun is at the Zenith at the equator and its rays fall perpendicular to the earth’s axis of rotation. For this reason, the number of hours of day and night are approximately identical. The two hemispheres, therefore, receive 12 hours each of light and darkness.
A few days after the spring equinox there will be a transition to daylight saving timewhich will provide an extra hour of light in the evening.
