WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is getting married to his longtime girlfriend Stella Morris in a high-security prison in London.
Julian Assange has been leaking WikiLeaks secret US military records and diplomatic affairs for more than 10 years. He has been charged in the United States with 18 counts of leaking military secrets. U.S. officials tried to deport him to face trial in those cases. Assange, who denies any wrongdoing, has been in Belmarsh prison since 2019, before serving seven years at the Ecuadorian embassy in London.
Stella has been Assange’s lawyer for more than 10 years. Stella met him in 2011 when he began working for Assange’s legal team. The two have lived together since 2015. Ecuador Stella became the father of two children with Morris while living at the embassy. Julian Assange, who is currently in prison, is getting married to Stella Morris in a small ceremony attended by only four guests as two witnesses and two guards.
Prison authorities have denied permission to journalists and photographers for security reasons. Earlier this month, he was denied permission to appeal to Britain’s Supreme Court against the decision to deport Assange. It is noteworthy, however, that he could sue against the government’s approval of the deportation.
