The Cuban rapper Kamankola shared on his social networks a post of praise made to him by the singer-songwriter Willy Chirino, while indicating that a collaboration with the author of “They Are Coming” would be a dream come true.
“Read this for God’s sake… it seems that a collaboration that I have dreamed of and desired all my life is coming… for me it would be a tremendous honor to share songs, art and life with you, maestro. Willy Chirino…brother…thank you again very much for sharing my humble verses…for the beautiful words…and for this feeling of making our muses collide and fly. Long live Cuba Libre!!!”, wrote the young musician, while sharing a screenshot of an image where Chirino praised his talent.
Kamankola has stood out for his incisive lyrics and his chronicle of Cuban reality, especially on topics such as freedom of expression or the July 11 protests.
“When I see a talent like Kamankola, I like people to listen to him…At some point I want to contribute to a topic with him, one of those that mortify the heartless oppressors on the other side,” Chirino wrote, confirming that the collaboration between the two can be a close event. “It would be great to hear a song together by two great talents,” commented Osgralyn Díaz Rodríguez in the Cuban-American musician’s post.
Willy Chirino, who has hits like “Oxígeno”, “Medias Negras” and “Soy”, has been a prominent figure in Latin music for decades, and won several awards throughout his career. His unique musical style combines Caribbean rhythms with romantic and political lyrics, on this topic he has also been recognized for speaking widely about the Cuban people.
For the moment we can only wait if this collaboration will be inspired by the most recent protests that occurred in provinces such as Santiago de Cuba and Bayamo, or will cover more general ideas about Cuba and its history.
