Microsoft Officially Ends Support for Windows 10, Pushing Users to Windows 11

Microsoft has officially ended support for Windows 10 as of Thursday, compelling users to upgrade to the latest operating system, Windows 11. The move signals a significant shift in the tech giant’s strategy, prioritizing security and performance enhancements available in its newest platform.
The cessation of support means users will no longer receive regular security updates and technical support for Windows 10. According to Microsoft, this leaves systems increasingly vulnerable to threats like malicious software and viruses. Furthermore, the discontinuation of feature updates may lead to compatibility issues with certain applications and functionalities. However, Microsoft has clarified that Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10 PCs will continue to receive security updates until October 10, 2028, and feature updates until August 2026.
Windows 11: A Focus on Security and Performance
Microsoft is positioning Windows 11 as a substantial upgrade, boasting advanced security features including TPM 2.0, virtualization-based security, and smart app control. Beyond security, the company claims Windows 11-based PCs offer performance gains of up to 2.3 times compared to their Windows 10 counterparts.
The new operating system also introduces improvements to the user experience, with features like snap layout and multi-desktop designed to enhance multitasking. A modernized user interface (UI) further contributes to a streamlined workflow.
AI Integration with CoPilot+ PCs
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) is a key component of Microsoft’s future vision. CoPilot+ PCs, powered by Windows, offer exclusive AI-driven functions such as ‘Recall’ and ‘Click to Do’, aiming to boost both work efficiency and creative capabilities. Microsoft has also outlined a roadmap for corporate customers to transition to the Windows environment without requiring full device replacements.
Extended Security Updates Available for Windows 10
Recognizing the need for a smooth transition, Microsoft is offering a pathway for users to continue receiving security updates for Windows 10. By enrolling in the Windows 10 Extended Security Update Program (ESU), users can access urgent and important updates for up to one year on a monthly basis.
“2025 will be a transition period to Windows 11 PCs,” stated Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). He further emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering the “best Windows 11 experience with security as the top priority through Co-Pilot+ PCs and cloud-based Windows 365.”
