Gaza, PNL’s first song after four years of absence, was released Friday December 8 at midnight on all streaming platforms. The rap group, with multiple platinum records, composed of the brothers Ademo and NOS, originally from the city of Tarterêts in Corbeil-Essonnes (Essonne), announced it on Xthe day before, by publishing a one-minute video accompanied by an enigmatic post: “For the love of life. In the name of humanity. God is big. A day of peace. » The post went viral within hours, viewed more than four million times.

Famous since 2015 with the video The world or nothing, the group does not give interviews, communicates directly with its fans on its Instagram and X accounts. Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza, the two brothers have filmed themselves in pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Paris. The eldest, Ademo, even called out President Emmanuel Macron on October 18 on social networks after the bombing of a hospital in Gaza. Friday December 8, on his Instagram accounthe explained what motivated him to write a five-minute long piece, specifying that all the funds collected will be donated to associations helping Palestine: “Hello, Shalom, Salam. (…) Allow me (…) to speak out and send a message of hope and peace. »

The song begins, as in the viral video, with the sound of running water, birdsong, children chattering and the voice of Ademo who, like a storyteller, says: “Once upon a time there was a day of peace…Gaza. » Then the melody, played on a few guitar arpeggios, lets us hear the slightly auto-tuned voice of the rapper, the trademark of PNL: “ I’m aiming for a ceasefire, I’m drawing a two [prière]. » The music, produced by two beatmakers close to PNL, Joa and Snow, and three others, less known, is soaring like most of the duo’s past productions and repeatedly repeats the name of the Palestinian enclave, Gaza, like a mantra.

“Made of the same flesh”

It’s not a revolutionary piece from an artistic point of view, but it stands out for its calming tone. In the third verse, Ademo tries to silence his anger, and admits: “Seeing these kids dead…I’m holding back tears/I’m just a man bursting into flames.” » At no time does the rapper name the parties to the conflict in Gaza, neither Hamas nor the Israeli army, nor does he mention the massacres of Israelis committed by Hamas on October 7. When he speaks of “these lost patients, opposite”, “future burnt people” (“crazy”), He recalls : “Sometimes we forget that we are made of the same flesh. » In his post on Instagram he uses the term “genocide” to evoke the tragedy experienced by the inhabitants of Gaza. A few verses above, in an almost Christian message, the thirty-year-old, of Muslim faith, attempted a prayer: “My God, forgive them, my God, forgive us/Guide our steps, our hearts, this world is crazy. » Ademo is not a politician, but an artist who speaks directly to his fans, at least to those who confront each other on the Internet: “ Our networks express the free/Peace, my brother, my sister, that’s the only subject. »
