The 42-year-old woman arrested on Friday on suspicion of pimping in Macedo de Cavaleiros will remain free, but subject to presentations to the authorities twice a week, a source linked to the process told Lusa this Saturday.

The defendant must still hand over her passport and is prohibited from contact with the others involved in the case, with the activity of her establishment being suspended.

The coercive measures were decreed by the court of Macedo de Cavaleiros, district of Bragança, after the operation by the National Republican Guard (GNR) that took place this Friday in the municipality and which was the culmination of an investigation into the crime of pimping (exploitation or solicitation of people to practice prostitution).

The detained woman is the owner of an establishment in the parish of Amendoeira, one of the places targeted for searches.

In addition to the suspicion, a 52-year-old man was accused of the crime of possession of an illegal weapon, from whom a firearm and 26 ammunition were seized.

Three home searches and seven non-domestic searches were carried out, in which 5,497 euros in cash, a car and various computer equipment were seized, detailed the GNR in a statement.

Also according to a source linked to the process, the alleged employees of the establishment are being heard as witnesses for future memory, in testimony in court, and the patrons who were in the place at the time of the operation were identified.
