The final square promises to be intense. Winner yesterday of the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals (33-22), the French women’s handball team was waiting to find out its opponent in the semi-final. It is ultimately Sweden, who defeated Germany this Wednesday (27-20), which will stand in the way of Les Bleues and will be the last obstacle before the final.
The Swedes made short work of the Germans, especially in the first half. From the first minutes, the future opponent of the French was no longer in doubt since the Scandinavians immediately made the difference to lead 7-0. Serene and diligent, they further increased their lead, returning to the locker room with a very comfortable mattress (16-6).
A revenge for the Swedes
However, the Germans were not there for the quarter-finals for nothing, and they proved it. More solid in defense and efficient in attack during the second period, they caught up slightly. However, this was too important to hope to win and continue the adventure in this Women’s Handball World Cup.
The first semi-final is therefore known. France will face Sweden this Friday at 5:30 p.m. A poster which leaves good memories for the Blues since they defeated the Swedes in the quarter-finals of the last World Cup, in 2021 (31-26). They then lost in the final against Norway.
The other semi-final is still unknown. The winning team of the last quarter-final between Denmark and Montenegro, this Wednesday evening, will meet Norway, again on Friday, at 9 p.m. The final is scheduled for Sunday (7 p.m.).
