University of Maine Women’s Swimming & Diving Team Secures Third Place at State Meet

The university of Maine women’s swimming & diving team delivered a strong performance at the Maine State Meet, hosted by Colby College, currently holding third place with 210 points after the first day of competition. The Black bears showcased their talent with six top-10 finishes, signaling a promising start to the championship event.

Strong Individual Performances Highlight Day one

Several University of Maine athletes distinguished themselves with podium finishes. Nicolene Harkins led the charge, securing a bronze medal in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:05.48.Charlotte Hoover also earned a bronze, completing the 50-yard backstroke in 26.61 seconds. Adding to the team’s success, Amelia area claimed bronze in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 24.11 seconds, and later added a sixth-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 26.27.

laura Dube demonstrated consistent performance, finishing fifth in both the 50-yard breaststroke (30.40) and the 200-yard IM (2:10.62). Eva Welsh contributed to the team’s point total with a seventh-place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 30.98 seconds. Alicia Littler tied for ninth in the 50-yard freestyle,posting a time of 24.79.

Relay Successes Boost Team Standing

The Black Bears also excelled in relay events. Hoover, Area, Emily Yorkievitz, and Littler combined for a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, completing the race in 1:35.97. The team capped off the day with a victory in the mixed 400-yard medley relay, as Hoover and Yorkievitz teamed up with Jesse Lower and Joey Stauss to achieve a winning time of 3:36.96.
