University of Bridgeport Swimming & Diving Secures Seventh Place at ECAC Winter Championships

A strong showing against predominantly Division I competition saw the University of Bridgeport’s women’s swimming and diving team finish seventh at the ECAC Winter Championships. The Purple Knights accumulated 531.5 points over the three-day event, held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center on Long Island, and secured the second-highest score among Division II programs.
Purple Knights Conclude Competitive Weekend
The University of Bridgeport wrapped up a demanding weekend of competition with notable performances in the final session of the championships. The team demonstrated consistent effort, highlighted by several top finishes across various events.
Individual Performances Shine
Luke Olsen led the charge in the 1650-free, securing an 11th-place finish with a time of 18:19.14. Teammate Patricia Torviso also contributed, finishing 18th in the same event with a time of 18:44.12.
In the 200-backstroke, Hazel Clark achieved an 18th-place result, touching the wall at 2:14.14. Ceyda Genç delivered a strong performance in the 100-free, earning a 14th-place finish with a time of 53.37.
The 200-breaststroke proved to be a particularly successful event for Bridgeport, with three swimmers placing in the top 22. Pierina Ferraresi finished 11th in 2:28.71, followed by Cristal Margarita GĂłmez Rodriguez in 13th place with a time of 2:30.15, and Ania Mrozik in 22nd place at 2:37.51.
Relay Success and Final Standings
Bridgeport concluded the championships with an eighth-place finish in the 400-free relay. The team of Genç, Clark, Gómez Rodriguez, and Olsen combined for a time of 3:36.13.
