HIV awareness and support activities in Paderborn for World AIDS Day
Paderborn – As World AIDS Day on December 1st approaches, various activities are taking place in Paderborn to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS, as well as to support those living with the virus. Bianca Schröder, a full-time employee of Aidshilfe Paderborn, emphasizes that thanks to therapy, people with HIV have a good chance of a normal life expectancy with a good quality of life. However, for this to happen, sick people need to know about their infection.
One of the key messages from Aidshilfe Paderborn is the importance of early HIV testing. While there is no cure for HIV, there are good medications available that can suppress the virus from reproducing if the infection is known.
Aidshilfe at Riemekestrasse 12 provides advice and support for those living with HIV in Paderborn. Schröder emphasizes that people can live well and for a long time with HIV today, and even those who were diagnosed late have the best chance of their immune system recovering. Additionally, she reassures that HIV cannot be transmitted in everyday life and with therapy, HIV can no longer be transmitted during sex.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), around 1,900 people were infected with HIV in Germany in 2022, with a slight increase compared to the previous year. The overall number of new HIV infections has been declining since 2007, primarily due to changed sexual and testing behavior.
