World Book Day – April 23

THE April 23rd has been established by UNESCO as World Book Day. Since 2016 h Greek Book Association established it in our country as well.

The aim of the celebration is to celebrate the book and the authors and to encourage the public – especially young people – to discover the joy of reading while at the same time the day is dedicated to the two authors Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare.

The show started the 1988 in custody Michali Mitra and for several years it was a point of reference on Greek television for the book, with Katerina Zarokosta, Mikela Hartoulari, Amanda Michalopoulou and others.

Each show, half an hour long, consists of two sections: “Highlights”, with references to new publications and important literary events in Greece and abroad, with readings of excerpts from books – either by the authors themselves, or by actors – and presentations of special topics related to the book, and the “Meetings”, with conversations between authors, literary critics, publishers, etc.

In this particular episode, her book is presented Nenis Efthymiadis “The color of the future”, his book “Me flosh royale”. Yannis Gaitanouthe book of Romanian E.M. Cioran “Confessions and anathemas” and his book Sotiris Kapsaskis “Pantokrator village in Zakythos”. The author appears Vassilis Vassilikos. The writer Dimitris Nollas reads from his novel “The fifth generation”, and the actress Sophia Searly she reads from her novel Alexandra Deligiorgis “The end of the golden moon.” Finally, a unique on-camera recording of the show is presented: the author Giorgos Heimonas he reads from his “Hamlet.” Shakespeare which he translated himself.
