The British writer Anne Perryknown for its detective novels “Pitt and Monk” and because of his dark past after serving a sentence for murder, died on Monday in Los Angeles at the age of 84, his representatives confirmed this Thursday.

In 1979, Perry published “The Cater Street Crimes“, the first in a series of books starring Victorian policeman Thomas Pitt and his wife Charlotte.

This month he had released another novel in the sequence called “The Fourth Enemy” and in 2017 he released “21 Days,” which follows the couple’s son, Daniel. Perry’s second series of detective novels revolves around detective William Monk and nurse Hester Latterly.

In 2000, he won the Edgar Award, which recognizes writers of mystery novels, with “Heroes,” a story about a murder that takes place in the trenches during World War I.

Before his death, he had been working on more titles in the Pitt and Monk series, and his works have regularly appeared on the New York Times bestseller list.

Perry was born in Blackheath, London, but first moved to the Bahamas at the age of 8 before originally settling in New Zealand.
