A new study from the Pew Research Center reveals that YouTube and Facebook continue to be the most widely used social media platforms in the United States, despite growing competition from newer services like TikTok. The disparity is particularly pronounced on Instagram, where 80% of young adults are active users, while usage among those over 65 remains very low. These generational differences fundamentally shape the overall picture of social media engagement.

Approximately half of all U.S. adults visit either YouTube or Facebook on a daily basis. A significant portion of these daily users log in multiple times per day, indicating high levels of platform loyalty. Daily activity is particularly concentrated among younger users, with YouTube and TikTok being the most frequently used apps in that demographic. However, Facebook remains the leading platform for daily use among adults aged 30 to 64.
