A Spanish press report revealed that Ajax Amsterdam is seeking to sign Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez during the next season.
According to the Spanish newspaper “Sport”, Ajax is far from competing for the Dutch League title, and is not in the qualifying positions for the European championships, and therefore decided to put Xavi on the list of candidates to lead it in the new season.
The report indicated that Ajax’s current coach, John van’t Schip, announced that he would leave at the end of the current season.
The newspaper added: “Ajax club appreciates Xavi’s experience as a former player, and his good dealings with young players as coach of Barcelona, as the Dutch club has an important list of young players and Xavi’s presence will help them develop, in addition to his tactic of starting to play from the back and taking possession of the ball.”
The newspaper reported that it is not unlikely that Xavi will continue at Barcelona, and that he may change his mind, especially if he ousts Paris Saint-Germain from the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and Barcelona’s economic situation improves in the summer.
