Table of Contents
Despite broader market headwinds,Ripple continues to forge strategic partnerships, offering a potential counterbalance to short-term price pressures.
XRP (XRPUSD) experienced a significant downturn, falling 5.43% over the past 24 hours to $1.80. This decline outpaced the overall cryptocurrency market’s 4.8% drop, signaling increased risk aversion among investors. The recent selloff reflects waning sentiment across the digital asset landscape.
Bitcoin’s Influence and Market Liquidity
Trading data indicates that XRP’s recent struggles are directly linked to the performance of Bitcoin and its own weakening technical indicators. A sharp decline in Bitcoin, falling below $85,000, exerted downward pressure on major altcoins, including XRP. Geopolitical instability is also contributing to altered investment sentiments.
The market’s “risk-off” mood triggered over $800 million in crypto liquidations, disproportionately impacting altcoins due to their typically lower liquidity. “XRP’s high correlation with Bitcoin amplifies downside during market stress,” one analyst noted. With Bitcoin’s market dominance currently around 58.8%, capital is rotating away from riskier altcoins, further suppressing XRP’s price.
Technical Analysis Points to Further Declines
The price of XRP breached the $1.85 support level, triggering a cascade of stop-loss orders. Technical indicators paint a bearish picture. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) does not suggest any immediate oversold relief, while the Moving average Convergence Divergence (MACD) confirms ongoing negative momentum.
This breakdown in technical support has shifted market psychology, prompting short-term traders to target a price of $1.60. Trading volume surged 99.5% during the drop, indicating that panic selling overwhelmed any buying interest.
Ripple’s Strategic Growth in Saudi Arabia
Despite the short-term technical fragility, XRP is balancing these challenges with strategic growth initiatives, especially in Saudi Arabia.institutional demand, driven by Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs),is acting as a counterweight to retail selloffs.
Ripple recently partnered with Jeel, the innovation arm of Riyad Bank, to advance blockchain-based cross-border payments, digital asset custody, and tokenization in Saudi Arabia. This collaboration directly supports Saudi Vision 2030, a national plan aimed at diversifying the Saudi economy. Ripple has also scheduled an XRP Community Day for February 11, featuring CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
“This partnership expands Ripple’s institutional footprint in a high-growth market, possibly increasing the real-world utility and adoption of XRP for settlement,” according to a company release.
Shifting Investor Behavior
data reveals a decrease in retail leverage, with XRP futures open interest dropping to $3.4 billion from approximately $4.55 billion in early january. Though, XRP ETFs have maintained $1.27 billion in cumulative inflows despite the market volatility, demonstrating continued institutional confidence with institutions currently holding 788 million XRP
