In recent years, local films have been the leaders in the local box office, often ahead of both Hollywood and Russian hits in terms of box office. Yakut films have collected a complete collection of Grand Prix of the largest Russian festivals and successfully represent the country at international film screenings. And this year, the name of the republic is heard for the first time in connection with the Oscars. Among the nominees for the award is the short film Exit, filmed by directors Maxim and Evgenia Arbugaev, a brother and sister from the village of Tiksi, Bulunsky ulus of the Republic of Sakha.
