The New York Yankees are aggressively pursuing Cody Bellinger, making a second offer to the free-agent outfielder as they prepare for spring training.

The Yankees have extended a second offer to outfielder Cody Bellinger, according to the New York Post. An initial offer was reportedly made last week, though financial details remain undisclosed. General Manager Brian Cashman has publicly stated that re-signing Bellinger, who delivered a 4.9 WAR season with the Yankees in 2025, is the team’s top priority.

Yankees Explore Trade for Marlins Pitcher

Beyond Bellinger, the Yankees are reportedly engaged in discussions with the Marlins regarding right-handed pitcher Edward Cabrera. A potential trade for Cabrera could be linked to Bellinger’s return to the Bronx. Securing Bellinger would also potentially clear the way for the Yankees to include former top prospect Jasson Domínguez in a trade for additional pitching.

Brewers Gauge Trade Interest in Ace Peralta

Trade talks surrounding Brewers ace Freddy Peralta are expected to intensify now that the holiday season has passed, The Athletic reports. The Braves, Dodgers, Mets, Red Sox, and Yankees are among the teams expressing interest. Peralta’s $8 million salary for 2026 makes him an affordable option for contending teams.

  • The Yankees are prioritizing Cody Bellinger and have made a second offer.
  • A trade for Marlins pitcher Edward Cabrera could be tied to Bellinger’s return.
  • Multiple teams are interested in Brewers ace Freddy Peralta.

Pirates Eye Offensive Boost with Suárez

Looking to bolster their offense, the Pirates have shown interest in free-agent third baseman Eugenio Suárez, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Pittsburgh has already added Brandon Lowe and Ryan O’Hearn to a lineup that struggled offensively in 2025, ranking last in the league in both runs scored and home runs.

Currently, Jared Triolo is the primary third-base option for Pittsburgh. The Pirates’ lineup also leans heavily towards left-handed hitters, with Lowe, Oneil Cruz, and Spencer Horwitz all batting from the left side. Suárez would provide a significant offensive upgrade at third base and add much-needed right-handed power. The Pirates reportedly offered Kyle Schwarber a contract exceeding $100 million, potentially setting a favorable benchmark for Suárez’s negotiations.

Phillies Add Mattingly to Coaching Staff

The Phillies have hired Don Mattingly as their new bench coach, the team announced Monday. Mattingly’s contract with the Blue Jays expired at the end of the 2025 calendar year. He continues his pursuit of a World Series title after a near miss last season.

“I am excited to welcome Don Mattingly to Philadelphia,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said in a statement. “Having known Don for years and having worked closely with him in New York, I know that his knowledge of the game and his character make him a great addition to our tremendous coaching staff.” Mattingly, 64, spent the last three seasons as Toronto’s bench coach. He and Thomson previously worked together with the Yankees. Mattingly’s son, Preston, is the Phillies’ general manager under president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski.
