The “Yerevan Open” international chess tournament, organized by the Yerevan Chess Federation in cooperation with the Yerevan Municipality, has started at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex. The tournament is the biggest open championship held in Armenia since independence.

The President of the Yerevan Chess Federation Mkhitar Hayrapetyan and Deputy Mayor Gayane Melkom Melkomyan were present at the ceremonial start, who welcomed and wished success to the participants.

311 FIDE-ranked chess players from 14 countries, including grandmasters and international masters, are participating in the tournament. Among the representatives of Armenia, Tigran Petrosyan, Arman Mikayelyan, Karen Movsisyan, Mamikon Gharibyan, Davit Shahinyan, Artur Davtyan and others are participating in the tournament.

The Yerevan Open Championship is being held for the 3rd time. This year the tournament consists of two subgroups: A and B. 129 chess players from 10 countries of the world are participating in the subgroup A tournament. The Yerevan Open Tournament is held in the Swiss format. it consists of 9 rounds. The total prize pool of the tournament is 11 million drams.

The championship will continue until October 22.
