The interests of the West in the South Caucasus are not related to helping Armenia to regulate relations with Azerbaijan and achieve sustainable peace and stability, but to push Russia out of this process and create another source of tension in the immediate vicinity of its borders. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin told this to “Izvestia” newspaper.

According to him, the Russian side has always called on both participants of the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement to show maximum restraint in the line of contact.

“The future of the South Caucasus should be decided by the countries for which this region is a common home. Neither the USA, nor France, nor the EU countries are among those countries. Accordingly, we consider it ineffective to bring non-regional forces, “pro-Westerners” into the region, which, unfortunately, official Yerevan tends to do recently. We see that in no country or region where the United States and its satellites from the European Union and NATO have intervened, there has been stability and lasting peace. There was only the destruction of statehood, chaos and destabilization,” said Galuzin.
