Islamabad: After leaving its mark across the world, Yoga has now entered the fanatical Islamic country Pakistan. Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual art of India. The Sports and Culture Department of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) organized a complimentary yoga session for residents in the capital Islamabad. According to CDA’s Facebook page, the event was organized on May 2 at F-9 Park in Islamabad. CDA’s Islamabad division wrote on Facebook, “Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation has launched free yoga classes at F-9 Park! Many people have already joined to start their journey towards health and wellness.
CDA further wrote “But Yoga is not all! The Directorate of Sports, Culture and Tourism is also thrilled to announce coaching classes for Basketball, Lawn Tennis and Futsal at F-6 and G-11 Multi-Purpose Grounds. 7 to 16 “Boys and girls aged between 8 and 80 are honing their skills under expert guidance, fostering a spirit of teamwork and athleticism in our community.”
Yoga class organized in two shifts
The yoga classes were divided into two shifts; The morning session was scheduled to run from 6 am to 8 am, and the evening session was scheduled to take place from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Both men and women of all ages attended the classes which were free. The CDA said it attaches great importance to offering healthy activities to its citizens.
International Yoga Day is celebrated on 21st June
Recognizing the universal popularity of yoga, the United Nations declared 21 June as International Yoga Day on 11 December 2013. The announcement came after India proposed a draft resolution to establish the International Day of Yoga. A record 175 member countries supported this proposal. Since yoga is commonly associated with India, not many formal institutions teach yoga in Pakistan.
