President Yoon Seok-yeol and Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung agreed to hold a summit meeting at the Yongsan Presidential Office on the 29th.
On the 26th, Hong Cheol-ho, Senior Secretary to the President for Political Affairs, and Chun Jun-ho, Chief of Staff to the Democratic Party of Korea, announced that, as a result of the third working-level meeting for the summit meeting, they agreed to hold the meeting in the form of a tea meeting at the President’s Office at 2 p.m. on the 29th.
Chief of Staff Cheon Joon-ho explained that Policy Committee Chairman Jin Seong-joon, Chief Spokesperson Park Seong-joon, and Chief of Staff Cheon Joon-ho decided to attend the Yongsan meeting along with Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea.
In addition, the President’s Office decided to attend with Chief of Staff Jeong Jin-seok, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Hong Cheol-ho, and Senior Secretary for Public Relations Lee Do-woon.
Chief of Staff Cheon said, “We decided not to place restrictions on special agendas,” and added, “This meeting is expected to be one in which the public sentiment expressed in the general election will be conveyed to President Yoon Seok-yeol without any addition or subtraction, and plans will be sought to restore people’s livelihood and change the direction of government administration that the people want.” “I do it,” he said.
It was agreed that this Yongsan meeting would basically last for about an hour in the style of a tea meeting, but if the meeting between President Yoon Seok-yeol and Representative Lee Jae-myung becomes longer, it will be held without any special time limit.
There is also a possibility that a joint agreement will be announced after the meeting.
Chief Hong said, “(The meeting) was set at 1 hour as standard, and there will be no time limit, so if the two people talk for a long time, the meeting will continue.” He continued, “As soon as it is over, there is time to draft a joint agreement, so I understand that Yongsan will make an announcement centered on the conversation between Yongsan-daero and the Democratic Party of Korea.”
He then explained, “The President is also preparing for the meeting,” adding, “The most important issue is the people’s livelihood. And I hope to find momentum by meeting with Representative Lee on issues of national interest.”
Earlier, Representative Lee Jae-myung announced his intention to hold a leadership meeting with President Yoon without prior agenda coordination. The President’s Office also expressed its welcome.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party originally requested to coordinate specific agendas before the meeting, such as ‘payment of 250,000 won in livelihood support’ and ‘Special Prosecutor Act on Corporal Chae’. On the other hand, the President’s Office counter-proposed a meeting without prior agenda coordination or agreement, and as the Democratic Party accepted this, discussions on preparations for the leaders’ meeting progressed quickly.
