Tehran,

Islamic laws are strictly followed in Iran. The government has imposed strict restrictions on women living in the country.

Women are required to wear hijab in public. Dancing and singing are not allowed in public places. It also prohibits dancing and singing together with another man.

Meanwhile, a young couple in their early 20s, Astiaj Haqiqi and his fiance Aamir Mohammad Ahmadi, embrace in front of one of the iconic landmarks, the Azadi Gopuram, doing a romantic dance.

The video of this went viral. They were also popular on social media at that time. Both were arrested last November for violating Islamic law. Protests against the hijab in Iran have intensified over the past year.

In this context, there was an allegation that the video was meant to support the protest. They were prosecuted in a court in Tehran.

In the trial, the court sentenced both of them to 10 years and 6 months imprisonment each. They are banned from using the website and from leaving Iran.

This was reported by a US-based news agency for human rights activists. Both of them have conspired against national security. It has also been alleged that they are engaged in propaganda against the government.

Hakeegi is currently incarcerated in Kwarzak prison. The couple was tried and sentenced without the right to legal representation to represent them. Due to this, efforts to get them bail have also failed.
