Yung Lean, GENER8ION Deliver Electrifying VMAs Performance

Yung Lean and GENER8ION delivered a live performance of “Storm II” at the 2026 MTV VMAs, closing the event. The act featured dancers and a Moon Person destruction. The performance took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 27, 2026, as the final performance of the night, according to Billboard.

The performance, which brought the clip to life at the VMAs, recreated the visuals of the “Storm II” music video, known for its synchronized school uniform dancers. Yung Lean opened the act by smashing a Moon Person statue before joining a troupe of dancers in a choreographed routine. The sequence, designed by Damien Jalet, mirrored the video’s synchronized choreography, with dancing classmates making a tidal wave. The “Storm” project, which had passed 26 million video views by the VMAs, was released April 24, according to Billboard.

The Choreography That Defied AI

Gavras previously won an MTV Video Music Award in the Best Direction category for M.I.A.’s “Bad Girls,” while Jalet is known for his work with Thom Yorke on his short film Anima.

The act was part of the Storm I & II project, a collaboration between Yung Lean and GENER8ION (Gavras and French producer Surkin). The project came out April 24 and had passed 26 million video views by the VMAs, according to Billboard. “Storm” had 4 VMA nominations, including Video of the Year, and won none. Taylor Swift’s The Fate of Ophelia won Video of the Year. The video competed against works by Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, Madonna, Sabrina Carpenter, and Taylor Swift, as reported by Milnotas.

A Career-Defining Moment

The act also highlighted Gavras, having previously won an MTV Video Music Award in the Best Direction category for M.I.A.’s “Bad Girls.” Jalet is known for his hypnotic choreographic style, and has gained recognition in the music world for his work with Thom Yorke on his short film Anima.
