Épône changes mayor. The elected officials of the municipal council appointed Ivica Jovic on Monday to manage the affairs of this town of almost 7,000 inhabitants, near Mantes-la-Jolie (Yvelines). The one who was until then first deputy succeeds Guy Muller (LR), who resigned for health reasons.
Aged 74, the latter had been running the town since 2014. Despite his resignation, he will remain a community advisor to Grand Paris Seine et Oise (GPSEO) and departmental advisor. At the head of the city for almost ten years, he had enabled him to regain political stability. Between 2004 and 2014, Épône had changed hands four times in a climate of trench warfare.
It is in a much more peaceful atmosphere that Ivica Jovic arrives. He knows the town well, having settled there twenty years ago. Father of three children, young grandfather, the director of the Boucles de Seine leisure center in Moisson has established himself, at the age of 50, as a natural successor. The handover was originally scheduled to take place after 2026 but Guy Muller’s fatigue has accelerated the schedule.
The revival of the municipal police under construction
Clever, pragmatic, Ivica Jovic has had the opportunity to hone his political sense for several years as an assistant. “I follow in the footsteps of Guy Muller and I will try to bring my dynamism, he confides. I want to go fast and well. In particular, I will tackle the city center where the activity is dying. A house of services is planned and in the short term, a food-truck is hoped for on Friday evening. »
The new mayor is also working on the construction of two new sports grounds by 2024. Another project: the revival of the municipal police. Until now intermunicipal, it suffers from its recent divorce with Mézières-sur-Seine, the neighboring town, and recruitment difficulties. There is only one policeman left assigned to the Épône station. An additional agent is expected on October 1 and another is being recruited. “The goal is to get to five very quickly,” promises Ivica Jovic.
