INTERVIEW – The American journalist has collected on numerous occasions the confidences of the former actor who became a politician and war leader.
Reporter at the American magazine TimeSimon Shuster has been covering Ukrainian news since 2014. On January 24, he published a book entitled We will vanquish (Éditions Harper Collins France), the result of numerous interviews with President Volodymyr Zelensky and his entourage.
LE FIGARO. – How did Volodymyr Zelensky react, on February 24, 2022, to the invasion of his country?
Simon SHUSTER. – He said to himself: “You are a symbol, you must now behave like a head of state.” From that day on, he worked to express the feelings, anger and fears of his people. He convinced the world to come to his aid, by imposing the idea that this war is something other than a territorial dispute on the borders of Europe: a fight for democracy and humanity.
