World champion Max Verstappen with Red Bull won the sprint race for the Miami Grand Prix by more than 3 seconds ahead of Charles Leclerc with Ferrari. Max’s team-mate Sergio Perez narrowly missed Daniel Ricciardo with RB, but then regained third place. Ricciardo held off the attacks of Carlos Sainz with the second Ferrari and left him fifth.
The race started with a wild entry by Lewis Hamilton on the inside of turn one. His car hit that of Fernando Alonso, who crashed into his teammate in Aston Martin, and he into Oscar Piastri with McLaren. So Piastri and Stroll dropped out, and Hamilton was not penalized because it was a racing incident. And a security car entered the track.
Seven-time world champion Hamilton then clung to a battle with Haas-led Kevin Magnussen for the points-scoring eighth. In the end it was taken by the Dane, who received a total of 25 seconds of penalties. Hamilton enjoyed very little of his point, having been penalized for speeding in the pits when there was a safety car. So she went to Yuki Tsunoda in the second RB car. Oscar Piastri with McLaren and Nico Hulkenberg with Haas took sixth ahead of him.
The winning trio received their awards from Zinedine Zidane.
And the punishments were a bunch. Sebastian Ocon was penalized for coming out of the pits, nearly hitting Leclerc.
