Zootropolis 2, also known as Zootopia 2, is now the ninth highest-grossing film ever

The film’s success places it as the ninth highest-grossing film in global box office history, trailing behind blockbusters like Avatar, Titanic, Avengers: Endgame, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But before you start celebrating a complete Hollywood sweep,it’s worth noting that China’s Ne Zha 2 still reigns supreme as the highest-grossing animated movie with a staggering $2.2 billion (£1.65 billion) earned last year.

Released in November with an estimated budget of $150 million (£112 million),Zootropolis 2 reunites the unlikely duo of rabbit police officer judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and con artist fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman). This time, they’re on the trail of a mysterious new reptilian resident, Gary De’Snake (ke Huy Quan).

“This milestone belongs first and foremost to the fans around the world whose enthusiasm made it possible,” said Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman in a statement. “We’re incredibly proud of our filmmakers… Zootopia 2 is an exceptional achievement, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life.”
