As of this weekend, the Disney sequel has raked in a staggering $1.7 billion globally since premiering last Thanksgiving. A substantial portion—$1.313 billion, to be exact—originated from international audiences. The film’s enduring popularity, fueled by strong word-of-mouth, saw it surpass $1 billion in revenue within a mere two weeks of its release. Zootopia 2 now stands as the highest-grossing animated film in both China and international markets, and also claimed the top spot for all of 2025.
A Global Phenomenon
The film’s success isn’t limited to just overall earnings. Zootopia 2 is currently the second highest-grossing animated film overall, trailing only Ne Zha II. It also ranks as the ninth-highest-grossing film of all time, falling just behind Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film continues to play in theaters and is expected to add to its impressive total.
In a statement, Disney co-chairman Alan Bergman attributed the milestone “first and foremost to the fans around the world whose enthusiasm made it possible. We’re incredibly proud of our filmmakers Jared Bush, Byron Howard, and Yvett Merino and the entire team at Walt Disney Animation Studios for creating a film that connects so deeply with audiences everywhere. [This] is an extraordinary achievement, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life.”
Given its continued presence in cinemas, Zootopia 2 is poised to generate even more revenue. Industry observers aren’t surprised, and many anticipate an official announcement regarding a third installment within the next few years.
