Luxembourg students have a cherished way to unwind after a demanding semester: the Zürcher Ball. The annual event, organized by the Luxembourg Students Association in Zurich (LSZ), returns for its 63rd edition on December 25 at Luxexpo The Box. It’s a tradition that draws a crowd, with 4,500 visitors expected to attend.
While initially intended for students, the ball now welcomes a broader audience, ranging in age from 18 to 30.”Young people come to get together and relieve the stress of the semester,” explains philippe Schaack, from LSZ. The event rivals only the ACEL ball in size, solidifying its place as one of the largest of the year.
Sold Out
Despite interruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Zürcher Ball remains a deeply rooted “true family tradition.” One of the organizers, Philippe Schaack, recalls that many attendees’ parents also frequented the ball during their student days, creating a multi-generational connection to the event.
This year, attendees won’t be rushing to find late-night transportation. The ball is fully sold out, having reached capacity “sence Monday.” Students have been actively involved in preparations, working alongside technicians at Luxexpo in the days leading up to the event. “And on Thursday, we will serve at the bars alongside the alumni,” adds William homer.
New Partner
Attendees can expect some new features this year, including “two stages with a central mixing desk inspired by boiler room installations,” according to William Homer. The expanded offerings also include “a lounge area, food trucks, a huge locker room…” reflecting a significant budget of “a quarter of a million euros,” notes Philippe Schaack. The LSZ aims to recoup this investment to fund next year’s ball.
To support its continued success, Cupra has become a new partner for the event. The LSZ hopes to create a memorable experience for all attendees, with the goal of making the Zürcher Ball even bigger and better in the years to come.
