DIG/ With or without the approval of the country’s new authorities, the Prime Minister, Raymond Ndong Sima, gave his personal opinion on the duration of the transition in Gabon and his ability to lead the reforms necessary to put the country back on track.

Faithful to his outspokenness, he stated this, bluntly, in an interview given on Sunday, September 10, 2023, to Agence France Presse (AFP).

« It is good to start with a reasonable objective by saying: we want to see the process completed in 24 months so that we can return to elections”, did he declare. Before continuing:

“The principle announced by the military is that there is no longer any opposition or majority, so we take people from all political families.

The people who will (…) prepare different texts will discuss this aspect of things, that is to say the duration (of the transition), and who is really authorized to present themselves and not to present themselves?

It would not be good for the military to show up, so that they can be impartial and objective arbiters of the election”he estimated.

Asked about his ability to carry out the necessary reforms, without any pressure from the military, the Head of Government was clear:

“Will I have my hands free? I cannot know that at the moment, we will see and it will depend on what the military wants to obtain.

If they want to obtain a satisfactory result, it will be in their interest to give a free hand to those they have called.

Especially since it is they (…) who will take stock of what we are going to do, so it is in the military’s interest to give those they call the opportunity to work and achieve results. »he said.
