A hundred elite soldiers were sent to the province of Santa Elena to combat hitmen and leaders of terrorist groups, as announced by the Government on Tuesday, March 26.
Fabricio Tamayo, governor of the province, added that another 50 police officers are also expected to arrive for control tasks.
Since March 18, Saint Helena has suffered a string of violent deaths. For example, that day armed individuals arrived in a van to the La Libertad market and shot several people. There were two dead and two injured.
While one of the days with the most escalation of violence was this last weekend. On the night of Saturday, March 23, in the Otto Arosemena neighborhood, a group of citizens who were drinking on public roads were attacked with a burst of gunfire. Six people were killed and two others were injured.
That same night there were two other murders: one in the Atahualpa parish and another in the Anconcito.
