The Liptako-Gourma Youth Forum held on July 17, 18 and 19, 2023, in Ouagadougou reached its apotheosis on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. This framework for reflection on solutions for “youth with youth”, which brought together more than 70 young people from the three countries of the region, was articulated through panels, exchanges, round tables, etc. The activities concluded with recommendations.

« The voice of young people for peace and sustainable development in the Liptako-Gourma region, experiences and local solutions by young people, women and men living in border areas » is the theme that guided the work of the first edition of this forum.
Panels, exchanges, communications, were the mode of procedure of the Integrated Development Authority of the Liptako-Gourma region (ALG). All with the aim of tackling the security, climatic and social difficulties of young people living in these three areas. 70 young people from Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger who were gathered put on the table 14 recommendations which should allow the development of the regional stabilization strategy.
These include the promotion of the use of ICTs by young people, the establishment of a support mechanism for cooperatives, the establishment of a policy to reduce illegal immigration and rural exodus, etc. At the end of these exchanges, the participants said they were satisfied to have taken part in this initiative.
« During the three days, we young people reflected together on how to solve our problems. Each country shared the experiences according to its realities according to the avenues to be explored in order to be able to resolve the crises that these three countries are experiencing. We are now waiting for these recommendations to be implemented,” meant Rachidatou Nikema.
Aissata Niamebathily Sidibé, from Mali, added that these meetings were an opportunity for her to expand her address book. “It was really a very beneficial experience. We have also made recommendations to avoid banditry, juvenile delinquency in these areas of Liptako-Gourma”, she rejoiced.
Hyppolyte Lougné Bassolé represented the president of this first exchange meeting, the minister in charge of sports Dr Boubakar Savadogo. The latter reiterated the minister’s recognitions.
« In the context of the fight against terrorism, which is a war imposed on our valiant peoples and our States, I take the opportunity of this forum to appeal to all the youth of Liptako Gourma to take their responsibilities before history, to engage very actively in the fight against this scourge. It is imperative for the survival of our community.”concluded Hyppolyte Lougné Bassolé.
